REPORT ON INITIAL VERTICAL PILE LOAD IN TEST PILE (TP-01) FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SHAURYA CEMENT PLANT, 3000 TPD CLINKER GRINDING UNIT, MIRCHAIYA DIST. - SIRAHA NEPAL
INTRODUCTION:
Bore cast-in-situ R.C.C test pile (TP-01) was casted for construction of Shaurya Cement Plant, 3000 TPD clinker grinding unit, Mirchaiya Dist. – Siraha Nepal. This work of testing of pile is being done by M/S Ayoki Cembol Pvt. Ltd.in presence of client. The Report presented here under deals with the test procedure, field data and interpretation of test result with respect to design load.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
          Initial pile load test in compression has been conducted for construction of Shaurya Cement Plant, 3000 TPD clinker grinding unit, Mirchaiya Dist. – Siraha Nepal. The work for conducting pile load test has been awarded to by M/S Ayoki Cembol Pvt Ltd.
SCOPE OF WORK:
1.      Carrying out Initial vertical load test on pile in compression for the 600 mm dia. bored cast-in-situ pile.
2.      Analyzing and interpreting the load test data to check the load carrying capacity of pile.

PURPOSE OF TEST:
          The Purpose of this study is to have check on calculated load by static approach and to accomplish this purpose the study was conducted in following phases
1.      Testing the piles are 2.5 times the design load or failure whichever occurs first.
2.      To provide guidelines for setting up the limits of acceptance for routine test.
3.      Preparing this technical report presenting and analyzing the load test result.




















TESTING APPRATUS:
1.
Hydraulic Jack
:
The load was applied by single hydraulic jack having load capacity of 200 MT.
2.
Girder
:
The reaction of applied load was taken by assembled four girder (Drawing is attached with report) of ISMB: 600 mm with the help of four adjacent anchor pile.
3.
Dial Gauge
:
Settlement of pile head was measured by the help of three dial gauge of 0.01 mm least count.
4.
Magnetic Base
:
Dial gauge fitted by the help of Magnetic base.
5.
Pressure Pump
:
Load applied by a hydraulic Pump.
6.
Pressure Gauge
:
Load was measured by the help of Hydraulic Pressure Gauge having least count of 1 MT.  
                                                                                     
Other testing arrangement was done according to I.S. 2911 Part-IV

METHODS OF TESTING
After checking the pile head a thin layer of plaster of Paris applied on pile head for leveling. A round steel plate of 1" thickness kept on pile head and placed the jack centrally.
            Pressure Jack fitted with Pump, three dial gauges fitted with high paramagnetic base and rested them on datum bar which was fixed according to I.S. 2911 Part-IV, Gauge adjusted to zero.
            Initial setting load of 3 MT applied for a moment and thereafter released. The dial gauge re-adjusted to zero.
            Load was applied in equal increment of 20% (approx) of test load and each load was maintained till the average settlement of gauge was not more than 0.1 mm. per hour according to I.S. 2911 Part-IV Para 6.1.2 Reading were regularly recorded after 1 hours. After applying the full load it released the steadily decrement.

Summary:

          The safe load on single pile for up to and including 600 mm diameter for the Initial test should be of the following:
1.      Two thirds of the final load at which the total displacement attains a value of 12 mm, the safe load should be corresponding to the stated total displacement permissible.
2.      50 percent of the final load at which the total displacement equal 10 percent of the pile diameter in case of uniform diameter piles.
For Calculation of safe load,
From first criteria, average 12 mm settlement has been observed at 303 MT load so Safe load from this criteria is 303 x (2/3) = 202 MT.
From second criteria, consider 60 mm settlement has been observed at 552 MT so safe load from this criteria is 552/2 = 276 MT
From both above criteria, Safe load for pile is 202 MT.
